The Estonian language: an introduction

Estonian is most closely related to Finnish - rather than to its Baltic state neighbours - Latvia and Lithuania. This means it's one of a small group of languages known as the Finno-Ugric group which are unusual in that they are not connected to other Indo-European tongues - linguists regard it as an interesting language historically.
