Russian - vast Russia's world language

The Russian language: an introduction

Most important of the slavic languages, Russia is spoken throughout the huge expanse of what is today Russia - as well as in many former Soviet Union countries.

How many speakers are there of the Russian language?

Around 150 million people speak the Russian language - most living in Russia - but many are distributed throughout the states of eastern Europe. There are also many speakers in Israel and the US.

What Russian language issues do I need to watch out for?

There are many issues for the search marketer in the Russian language - as well as the search engines themselves. The 33 characters of the Cyrillic alphabet seem complex - but aren't - but the cases and aspects of Russian are potentially very difficult to deal with. Russian verbs, for instance, have two paired forms with each representing one of the aspects - namely perfective and imperfective. This can mean that two verbs meaning largely the same thing - actually look quite different.
